MY GHOSTS by Rhode Islanders David and Erica Laros was introduced to New York audiences at a showcase featuring songs from the production, at Don't Tell Mama on June 5, 2025, presented by Jay Michaels Global Communications.
An enthusiastic crowd filled the venue to hear Jonathan Grice, Alyssa Rose Germaine, and Lauren Katherine Pothier impressively deliver the songs, with David Laros at the piano.
Laros's compositional skills are a cut above. His melodies were beautiful without being sing-song, and the musical twists he threw in felt organic to the characters, driven by the drama, not calculated to impress other musicians in the audience (it can happen).
The book, by Erica Laros, is a fantastical dark comedy, in which acclaimed author Cab Curio struggles to defeat his inner critics: the ghosts of Shakespeare, Marlowe, and Wilson, while seeking help from Lenore, the clocktower ghost, before his time runs out.
Director Richard Carey Ford introduced the songs, but could have given more details of the plot to make it easier to follow. The format at Don't Tell Mama focuses on the music, though. These are the songs, and the singers, and they are great. Looking forward to getting the whole ghostly story!
