Kaitlyn Clark and how to Break Up a Wedding

What do you get when you mix three contentious sisters, one wedding, and a suspicious soon-to-be sister-in-law? Director Katharine McNair is bringing this hilarious story to life this spring at the 2024 Fresh Fruits Festival!

“How to Break up a Wedding” is the tale of three sisters – Margaret, Julie, and Tonya – who find a way to overlook their differences and come together. Of course, the cause of such a reconciliation is even more absurd than their initial misgivings!

When Keri offers some choice words to one of her fiance’s sisters, she unknowingly sets off a domino effect of sleuthing and plotting among the trio. While unearthing Keri’s past wrongdoings, the sisters attempt to plot a way to stop their brother’s wedding altogether.

Katharine McNair is a writer and director for stage and screen who’s shows have been featured in New York City and the Lower East Side Festival of the Arts. Her works have received widespread praise, taking her places such as Germany and Uruguay.

This project in particular resonates with the writer. Katharine herself comes from a family of three sisters and one brother. Although this story is entirely fictional, there are sure to be some relatable moments that anyone with siblings can relate to. Katharine tells us that she pulled inspiration from the antics of her own siblings; combined with her hilarious imagination, she is delivering a mastermind of a comedy!

The Fresh Fruits Festival is an LGBTQ community arts celebration hosted by All Out Arts to present the unique perspectives, creativity, diversity, and talent of the community through art. This year, the festival’s run is from April 22nd through May 5th.

McNair feels that this stage is the perfect place to bring her new comedy. Katharine puts a twist on the classic screwball comedy of the golden ages with her unique characters. She knows this festival’s audience is sure to resonate with this intricate plot of love, family, and competition – and she is excited to bring more laughs to the occasion! “The Fresh Fruits Festival is fantastic,” she says “I am honored to be a part of it.”

Having started this project as a screenplay, Katharine adapted the story for the stage about 4 years ago. Since then she has made it her mission to share this story. “I wanted these sisters to be known and seen!” she says. Through the laughs, these sisters show us what it means to be a family and how critical it can be to come together when you need to.

“How to Break Up a Wedding” will be featured as a Main Stage production at the Fresh Fruits Festival for a limited time. You can see this fabulous production on May 2 @ 6:30 PM, May 4 @ 3:15 PM, and May 5 @ 2:30 PM at The Wild Project, 125 E 3rd Street, New York City. Tickets can be purchased HERE.
